2019 Workshops
A series of workshops for the 29th of November, 2019 during the Pacific Islands GIS & RS Conference.
The Pacific GIS & RS Conference offers registered attendees to participate in workshops held on the 29th November, 2019 (Friday), at various locations. This year there will be a total of 5 workshops ranging from utilization of open source software QGIS, to Radar processing for analysis. Read below to learn more about the planned workshops. Registration is open during the conference week, with a fee of $20FJD per workshop per participant charged. Workshop Title: SAR Applications for Pacific Island Nations

Abstract:
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is an all-weather Earth Observation tool with a broad range of applications across maritime, environmental, disaster and infrastructure monitoring. Attendees of the Pacific GIS & Remote Sensing Council annual conference are invited to join a 1-day workshop on 29 November 2019 led by the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) to learn more about: key SAR concepts; different options for accessing and processing SAR datasets; and how SAR data might be used in support of national policy development or to achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Workshop Title: Geospatial Processing from Hexagon Geospatial
Workshop Facilitator: Angela Manchester (Hexagon)

Abstract: A day long workshop introducing key concepts of Hexagons’ Spatial Modeler. New technology following the version 2020 software release will be introduced and hands-on exercises on the latest features.
Participation certificate will be provided and training is provided by Hexagon Geospatial Staff. The content of the workshop will include key tools in image classification, vectorization, change detection and an introduction into machine learning.

Workshop Title: Exploring spatial data with Pacific Map
Workshop Facilitator: Siolei Tonga (SPC), Data 61TerriaJS Team

Abstract:This workshop provides an introduction to Pacific Map, how it works with the Pacific Data Hub, how to add your own data, and how to create and share maps and stories. Participants will gain practical experience through hands-on activities and are encouraged to bring their own spatial data to the workshop to try visualising it on the map. The workshop will be co-presented by CSIRO Data61, SPC and the Asia-Pacific Data for Development Initiative (D4D).
